ASA Folding Lapboard

Folding Lapboard

This 9" x 16" flying desk has 2 large clips to hold in-flight necessities such as charts, flightlogs, and approach plates. Lost communications procedures for both VFR and IFR, light gun signals, position reports, frequencies, and transponder codes are silk-screened on the brushed aluminum lapboard for quick reference during emergencies. It folds in half when less space is needed and for convenient storage. Foam strips on the back keep the lapboard comfortably in place.

It's great!
by KSOYflight from KSOY

Pros: Could be folded up and placed on floor in smaller aircraft.
Cons: none
Review: This kneeboard allows me to put a note pad on one side and my approach plates on the other. Works very well in PA-28 to C414 that we use in our flight training/charter operations.

Pros: The price was Ok
Review: It was what I expected. I loved that it had 2 clips for maps and papers. It was not stable on my lap.

Gets the job done.
by A Customer from Fishers IN USA

Pros: Sturdy construction, strong clips.
Cons: Might get in the way in a small cockpit with a stick.
Review: I don't think there is a perfect lap/kneeboard out there. This one does the job for me, though. It holds everything I need except for a pencil, so I just stuck a piece of velcro on the top right corner and mounted one myself. It holds my charts and notes without taking up lots of extra space. I fly a Diamond Star (stick would get in the way of a larger board), and I only have problems when doing lots of maneuvers that require back pressure on the stick. In that case, I just tilt it up against my chest or get it out of the way. For enroute, though, it's great.

This is a great clip board
by Dave from Sarasota FL USA

Pros: Two clips, stays in place on your lap
Cons: No pen/pencil clips and this need to be purchased separately
Review: The perfect clip board for IFR flying. It will allow you to view the approach plate and still have a note pad where you can take notes. I was concerned that it did not strap to your leg but it stays on your lap just fine and makes it easy to set aside if you want.

Excellent product
by Mark from Los Angeles CA USA

Pros: Size, folding
Cons: None yet
Review: Perfect size. Folds in half to be compact for my flight bag, but just the right size to hold needed papers and maps in the provided clips. Stays open while in use and is made to be durable.

I've used one for Years! Best knee/lap pad around
by Robert Hawkins CFIAI from Gaithersburg MD

Pros: Big flat writing surface
Review: Better than any kneeboard. When open, fits across your lap to provide a nice big surface. Just add some Velcro to your pencil and a strip somewhere convenient on the pad and you'll never have to hunt for a pencil.
I have used one for 20 years and love it. The knee pad with strap is impossible to write on. The Lapboard is a convenient way to keep your map folded correctly and at the same time make time notations and new clearances - which happen all too frequently.

Perfect.......For the co-pilot
by A Customer from Iowa

Pros: Holds a lot of stuff
Cons: No pen/pencil holder - No knee strap or any other strap for that matter - A little bulky
Review: My IFR flight instructor had one of these when we went on our flights. When I asked him how he liked it, he said he liked it and it held all of the information that he needed FOR INSTRUCTING. However, he said he'd never use it on a solo or if he were flying because it was too bulky, it didn't have any straps, and it was hard to keep things organized and easily accessible. He said it was perfect for those who need to fly with a briefcase on their lap.

I picked one up anyway and I've only used it for preflight information as I gather it and review it prior to flight planning. Good for storing hard copy WX reports and flight plans. Basically the same thing I use my briefcase for...

I gave it two stars only because I can see how it would be useful to instructors and co-pilots and it is very well made. But, for a solo pilot, it's totally useless once you're in the air. You need one hand just to hold onto it and the other hand to write...which leaves no hands on the yoke. Every pilot will tell you that no hands on the yoke is a very bad deal.

Good Product
by Harlen from Mississippi

Pros: Rugged
Review: Handy Info imprinted, although most is familiar even to a newbie VFR pilot. My copilot (wife) uses it so it is really handy for the non pilot who flies with you. Will last forever, rugged.

good organizer
by Dima from Daytona Beach, FL

Pros: spacious
Cons: no pen holders, no straps
Review: Good for organizing the charts and other materials to use for the flight. Two things that I did not like - no pen holders (I stick them under the clips) and no strap or any other means to affix it to anything.
