The new Icom IC-A210 is more versatile, and has more features than any
other panel mounted com transceiver on the market. The unique Organic LED
display is brighter, has more contrast, and has a wider viewing angle. Other
features include a built-in voice activated two place intercom with independent
volume and squelch controls, 14v or 28v operation, instant 121.5 emergency
button, active/standby flip/flop frequency selection, powerful 8 watt
transmitter that is 8.3 kHZ compatible, and NOAA Weather channels. The IC-A210
also allows you to listen to the standby frequency, and can interface to most
GPS's so you can transfer frequencies directly from the GPS database into the
radio.
Large, bright OLED display
A fixed mount VFH airband first! The IC-A210 has an organic light emitting diode
(OLED) display. The OLED display emits light by itself and the display offers
many advantages in brightness, vividness, high contrast, wide viewing angle and
response time compared to a conventional display. In addition, the auto dimmer
function adjusts the display for optimum brightness at day or night.
Easy Channel Selection
It's fast and easy to select any of the memory channels in the Icom IC-A210.
The "flip-flop" arrow button switches between main and stand-by channels. The
dualwatch function allows you to monitor two channels simultaneously. In
addition, the auto stack memory stores the last 10 channels used and allows you
to recall those channels easily.
GPS Memory Function
When connected to an external GPS receiver equipped with an airport
frequency database, the frequency data such as nearby aiurports can be
transferred and made available in the Icom IC-A210.
12V/24V DC Power Source
The built-in DC-DC converter accepts a 12/24V DC power source. The Icom IC-A210
is easily installed in most airplanes or vehicles.
Intercom Functions
The Icom IC-A210 has a built-in voice activated intercom function allowing the
pilot to talk with the copilot via the headset. The IC-A210 has adjustable audio
level and squelch control functions.
Easy Installation
The Icom IC-A210 neatly fits inside the common mounting brackets used on most
airplanes including Icom's IC-A200. The IC-A210 can be interchanged with most
panel mount radios including Icom's IC-A200, Honeywell Bendix/King KY96A/KY97A
and Garmin's SL40. A bracket adapter will be supplied with the IC-A210.

Q: Does the A210 provide the ability to listen to atis and ATC simultaneously or does it act more like a scanner? If it scans back and forth between frequencies until it locks onto a transmission, then it would not provide the same usefulness as a transciever that receives transmissions on two frequencies simultaneously.
A:
The IC-A210 allows you to "monitor" two frequencies but does NOT allow you to actually listen to two different frequencies simultaneously. Whenever it hears something on one of the two dualwatch frequencies it will switch to that frequency until it's complete and then switch back to the primary frequency. However, if while listening to something on the standby frequency you may miss something on the primary while it was switched over.

Yes, the dualwatch function allows you to monitor two channels simultaneously. This has been advertised as one of the new features of the IC-A210.

A:
The A210 does not come with a wiring harness at all. You will need to wire the radio for the functions you need to use, including the GPS.

Q: Do you need a separate PTT for the intercom, or will it work on the basis of VOX?
How does the intercom function react with the normal VHF radio operation? Will the output from which ever mic is in use be transmitted when the main PTT is pressed?
A:
When the radio is wired for pilot and co-pilot, and when the VOX intercom is selected in the radio's set mode (along with the volume levels for each headset), the pilot and co-pilot will be able to communicate as long as the intercom switch is installed and closed. This is not a push-to-talk switch but a toggle switch that allows the pilot to isolate the co-pilot if he/she desires. If you wish to jumper between the contacts to keep the "switch" closed all of the time, you can do that and not install a separate switch at all.

Q: Does the A210 radio have 8.33khz spacing?
A:
Yes, the A210 can be used with the 8.33 KHz channel spacing, but it first must be set up in the software of the radio by an Icom service center. Due to FCC restrictions, Icom cannot release the software directly to end users.

Q: What, exactly, are the pro's and con's of TSO'd and non TSO'd? My airplane is not used for hire, am I required to have a TSO'd radio?
A:
You may install a non-TSO'd unit (such as the IC-A210), into a certified airplane (i.e. Cessna, Piper, Mooney, Beech, etc.) ONLY if you first request and obtain an FAA field approval first. If you have an Expirmental Aircraft you can install a non-TSO'd unit such as the IC-A210 without any issues. Here is a link to the

According to an email that we received from the VP of Sales at Icom in late September 2007:
"The TSO'd version is about 9 - 12 months away! ICOM AMERICA, INC. has to do the TSO process here in the US ourselves and it takes about 12 months."

The A210 does interchange easily with the Bendix/King KY97A. Included with the package is also a bracket adapter.
