Official USAF 21st Century A-2 Jacket

The Type A-2 leather flight jacket is one of the most classic and immediately recognizable articles of military clothing ever designed. It is most closely associated with World War II U.S. Army fighter pilots, who often decorated their jackets with squadron patches and elaborate artwork painted on the back.

Cockpit USA, the prime and only USAF government contractor for Air Force issue flight jackets, now offers the updated current 21st century version of the classic A-2 Air Force pilot's jacket, made out of the same luxurious Mil. Spec. government goatskin as earlier A-2 versions. The Air Force life support division listened to their pilots' requests to modify the 1987 version of the A-2 to accommodate current needs. This jacket now offers a host of new features which do not detract from its authentic appearance but provide the user with modern day conveniences. These include hand warming pockets, underneath flap pockets, inside pockets for personal equipment and a special pen pocket inside to allow pilots access to these articles.  The A-2 Leather Jacket also features  snap-down collar and  knit cuffs and waistband.

Proudly made in the U.S.A.

Sizes:
These jackets are roomier so order your regular size.  The sizes are standard men's coat sizes.  Generally speaking, Small is 38-40, Medium is 40-42, Large is 42-44, and XL is 46-48, and XXL is 50-52.  Please note that sizes 48 and higher are slightly more expensive (price shown in cart).

Jacket Size Chart

For an accurate measurement, you'll need a flexible tape measure (inches) and someone to help you place and read the measuring tape.  Measure the biggest circumference around the chest and keep the measuring tape horizontal, wrap around the biggest girth of the chest, keeping the measuring tape up and close to the arm pits.

Love the jacket.
by Terry from Huntsville AL USA

Pros: Very high quality, just the right length in body and sleeves.
Cons: wish it had snap closure at the bottom like Army issue jackets and the US flag on the inside would be a great touch also.
Review: I love my new jacket. I am sorry to see spring coming now that I have it.

I would buy this product again
by Courtney from Charlotte NC USA

Pros: well made from GOOD skins, good fit
Cons: inconveniently placed handwarmers (no biggie)
Review: I love my new A-2; the leather is heavy but not weighty, and I wanted a generous, oversize fit so 54 was good for that. Closer to the body I would get a 50. My only complaint (tiny) is that the handwarmer pocket seem inconveniently placed, behind the flap pockets. No biggie. This is first rate premium jacket!

I would buy this product again
by A Customer from Richmond VA USA

Pros: good coat
Cons: bad service
Review: The jacket is great, but it was upsetting that you charged $30 postage on an exchange - charged me for the [2nd Day Air] shipping that I initially got for $2.00.

The Real Deal
by Jerry from Papillion NE USA

Pros: Fit and finish are top notch
Cons: This is not a cold weather jacket -- but I knew that.
Review: This A-2 jacket was inspected by a USAF aviator; he says it is an authentic product with all the latest innovations. Being goat skin, it conforms to the milspec and by all appearances is exactly the same as the ones I see flight crews wearing at the local air base. If there is one drawback it is that the sleeves may be just a tad too short for my long arms. It would have been nice to have an option for another inch of sleeve length. I see that some of the flight crew members have the same problem. Otherwise the fit/feel is as expected.

My husband loves his new jacket
by Lynn from San Diego CA USA

Pros: Durable, attractive in style and color
Cons: Initially a little less flexible than I anticipated
Review: The new jacket is wonderful, well constructed and seems very durable. My husband loves it although he is still pretty attached to his 21 year old bomber jacket because it is soft and flexible after much wear. I hope this one mellows a little and becomes more like wearing a glove. He saves this new one for 'dressy occasions.'

A product ready to see me through two more decades of history
by Dave from Rocklin CA USA

Pros: Finish, fit, glove, quality, appearance
Cons: Seems light in weight but has proven to be wind resistant and warm
Review: This soft yet rugged jacket is perfect for my afternoons in the woods or an evening on the town. The finish is supple yet the construction appears bullet-proof. This baby replaces a twenty-year old aviator jacket made of cow's hide. Will keep the old one because it has history, but looking forward to creating new history with this one. Thanks for a job well done.

Awesome jacket
by A Customer from Kendall Park NJ USA

Pros: good leather quality, roomy, good utility space. warm.
Cons: none
Review: It met all of my expectations. by the way you should really order your exact size because these things really are roomy.  The interior pockets and pen holder have proven very usefull for me as well. It's a great jacket all around.

by David from Salem, OR
Review: Arrived quickly. Shipped the next day. Color of jacket shown on web page appearing lighter than what I received. I have owned a Vietnam era goatskin A-1 jacket (which was Dark brown) and this is the same. Very pleased with color and craftsmanship. The stitching is as was expected with military issue jackets. Very well made. This is the real deal. Thanks!

GREAT
by Pfc. Joey "ZaZa" from NY

Pros: well made, just as described
Cons: zipper seems a bit stiff. I suggest putting a little candle wax on the teeth if you can't get a taylor's chaulk
Review: As a WWII Re-enactor, I chose this particular model because of the side entry pockets and the interior pockets (more room to stash personal, non-period correct items). The jacket is very comfortable to wear. I took my chest measurement with a heavy sweater on and ordered a 42. It fits perfectly...over a sweater. While wearing it over a T-shirt, it is big. The description says it's cut with a little extra room and to order one's normal size. My advise is to consider what look and fit you're going for and what you will most often wear it over. Another slight issue is the color. It really is the color pictured; dark chocolate brown. Sort of the same color as an officer's 4 pocket tunic.

Review: Rich color. Good detail in workmanship. Overall quality feel.

by Ken from Woodbury , MN USA

Pros: Ordered size 48. It fits very nicely.
Cons: Can't think of any.
Review: The quality of the leather and the workmanship are top shelf. I love it. I would buy it again, but at my age (60's ) I probably won't need another one !!

A-2 21st century jacket
by Fuzzy from Summit NJ USA

Pros: Good Price
Review: Excellent quality - I presume it is mil spec with the USAF label (even though it reads "Property Air Force U.S. Army").You honored the "best price" guarantee and I got the shipment in about a week. Many thanks for the service.

Great quality and made in the USA.
by A Customer from mount juliet TN USA

Pros: fits well, looks great, smells great, made in USA
Cons: the knit cuffs and waste band could be heavier duty.
Review: The jacket appears well made, fits well, looks great, and it is all I thought it should be. But, it could use a different material for the lining. The lining grabs your shirt materail as you put the jacket on. And the lining on the right side puches out of the jacket when it it not zipped up. The knit materials don't look as good as the rest of the jacket but we will see how durable they are. The inside pockets are great and the utility overall it great. My last jacket of this type lasted 15 years and I think this one is even better made overall.

High Quality Purchase
by Doctor H from naperville IL USA

Pros: High quality materials
Review: This was a smart purchase of a quality product. The leather is the highest quality and the zipper is a high quality brass-looking material. Size is accurate.

A beautiful jacket.
by marilyn from tequesta FL USA

Review: It arrived with in the time that was given for which I was happy. I was happier when I opened the box and a beautifully made, good quality jacket was inside. This was the most moderately priced of the jackets I serched yet I believe it was equal to higher end ones. I would absoluetly recommend it to anyone.

It was the perfect gift!
by Rosemary from Carrollton TX USA

Pros: great value
Cons: none
Review: I purchased this jacket for my husband. His original is a little snug due to he has put on a "few" pounds since retirement.  The added pockets and extentions under the arms of the jacket are what he noticed imediately.  He stated,"we used to have these added to the jacket."   The fit is perfect.  If "The Colonel" is impressed with the quality and price of this jacket...everyone should be!  Fast/great service was included in the purchase.

Nicely Updated,
by Lon from Madison GA USA

Pros: Extra inner pockets
Cons: Not distressed enough, looks to new.
Review: I found this version A2 to be very well made,it has good weight without being overly heavy.I would have liked it to look a bit more broken in but over all a very nice jacket.

Good Quality Product
by Jerry L. from Winter Springs FL USA

Pros: Nice materials and stiching and it smells like leather .
Cons: Took longer to receive than quoted, but I wasn't in a hurry.
Review: The A-2 jacket met my expectations. It seems to be well constructed with good materials. However, the size I ordered was 42, the size I received was 44. It seems to fit OK and I like a little room under the jacket in case I wear a sweater. All-in-all I am pleased with the jacket.

Best jacket I have ever purchased.
by A Customer from San Francisco CA USA

Pros: Generous fit. Good value, Lots of cargo room.
Cons: None
Review: Simply a great jacket. Very comfortable and can be worn for many different occasions.

The best jackets ever...period
by Tweak from Colorado Springs CO USA

Pros: Great in all weather and absolutely superb leather
Cons: None
Review: As a Navigator, I was issued a few of these jackets over the years (with velcro). The quality and fit of these is far superior to the issued models. The A-2 is great in almost any weather, and in any situation from formal to casual. Recommend getting "exact" chest size rather than 1-upping the size as mentioned in previous review. The jacket is like a second skin so you want it a tad on the snug side, then break it in! r/Tim

nice jacket but
by Shon from Delano MN USA

Pros: not many
Cons: expinsive ive seen china jackets with better quality
Review: Nice jacket but,the leather is thin,it almost look like burns on the leather little spots on front cuffs and bottom got frizzy the first time i wore it too expensive for what you get!

Friday, January 04, 2008
by Leon from Florence MS USA
Review: Even though it is cut full, it is still very snug, almost too small. Size if correct.

Top Shelf
by A Customer from

Review: Just as I was issued a few years ago. Only better! This jacket has better quality leather and knit cuffs and back strap. Finally a jacket I can wear anywhere and not have that stupid Velcro on the front.

Tuesday, May 29, 2007
by Mark Gibson from Melbourne, Australia
Review: This is simply a beautifully crafted garment. I've owned several bomber jackets, but they don't even rate closet space near this garment. The fit finish and material are faultless. Lots of people screw up this American classic - but not Cockpit USA. Only one problem - my dad now wants me to get him one! Mark Gibson - Melbourne Australia

Updated features appreciated on A-2
by Dave "PROPWASH" Deeks from Bend,OR

Pros: authentic vintage look, leather/construction quality, value
Cons: sizing guidelines (needed one size over sportcoat size)
Review: I've owned several different flight jackets during my USAF pilot years and post active duty. This is my second Avirex A-2 acquired due to my "expanded" needs. Leather and construction quality are first rate and the interior pockets and side entry feature really improve the jackets overall utility.
