A retractable cord can be used to attach lamp to the head, the wrist, wrapped around a yoke, etc.  The three lighting levels make it great for flying.  The brightest light is perfect for your pre-flight check and the "economy" setting is great for use during flight providing enough light to read anything but not too bright to impact night vision.
