Notes of a Seaplane Instructor: An Instructional Guide to Seaplane Flying
by Burke Mees
Designed to help pilots transition from landplanes to seaplane flying-gives pilots the information needed to add-on this rating to their certificate, provides insight into the differences between land and seaplanes. The author has an affinity for the "feel of the floats on the water," as well as a sensible, professional approach, and communicates this effectively. All the seaplane maneuvers, starting with preflight, proceeding through taxiing, takeoff, landing, and postflight procedures; also operating in various water conditions, stability of the aircraft on the water, step-taxi and -turn, and much more. Many illustrations, which were inspired by the author's original seaplane notebook sketches, are included to further explain the concepts.
About the Author:
Currently flying year-round in Alaska's Aleutian Islands for a seaplane operator in Dutch Harbor, Burke Mees is an accomplished instructor of dozens of seaplane students and six years' experience as a seaplane charter pilot in Alaska. His seaplane instructing job in the mountains of the High Sierra in California-Nevada is partly what inspired the writing of this book — a distillation of all the tips, techniques and procedures he gathered during that time.
Throughout his career in these environments, Burke has developed a talent for explaining the differences between flying landplanes and seaplanes, and for teaching other pilots how to transition from one to the other. Burke also enjoys aerial photography of the striking Arctic landscape and the chain of Aleutian volcanoes that he overflies everyday, and has written articles for the Seaplane Pilot's Association and other magazines.

Good info, includes helpful info about mountain flying and weather by Paul from Duluth MN USA
Pros: Concise Review: I read it before I took lessons. It works best if you read it after you try some float flying. When I reread it I saw profound insights I missed the first time.
