Jeppesen announces the latest release, version 9, of its leading flight planner and moving map applications. FliteStar and FliteMap 9 feature numerous product enhancements, including the ability to download and graphically display Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) NOTAMs. Other features include the display of cloud bases in the profile view, wind aware routing, a new radio frequency report, improved terrain depiction, more robust fuel-planning capabilities and several aircraft enhancements.

FliteStar/FliteMap 9 allows users to download TFR NOTAMs with the touch of a button. The applications then graphically depict TFRs on the electonic map display, providing a clear picture of their dimensions, locations and how they may affect the planned route of flight. Users are assured of the latest TFR information because FliteStar/FliteMap downloads the data packets directly from the source—the FAA.

Cloud bases are now displayed in the profile view, giving users a comprehensive picture of cloud base heights over the entire route of flight. The cloud base depiction is derived directly from Jeppesen's or DUAT's weather data and is especially useful for planning flights in visual flight conditions or for avoiding possible icing situations.

Wind aware routing, a feature typically found only in high-end flight planners, is now available to FliteStar/FliteMap 9. This feature will optimize a flight for time, fuel and distance, both vertically and horizontally, based on forecast winds aloft data. Wind aware routing adds another level of functionality and accuracy to the flight planning process.

Building specific aircraft models is now made simpler thanks to a new wizard that guides users through the data input process. This functionality is especially useful to those who fly unique types of aircraft which may not be included with the standard applications.

The radio frequency report offers users quick and easy access to communication and navigation frequencies for any planned route. And, it can be customized to include varying radius search patterns around towers, airports, VORs and other navaids.

The terrain shading within FliteStar/FliteMap 9 (contiguous U.S. only) is now displayed at a nine-arc second resolution, which dramatically improves its definition and appearance. Previous versions of FliteStar/FliteMap relied on 30-arc second data only. This enhancement is especially useful to those using FliteMap as an in-flight moving map reference.

With the improved fuel planning capabilities offered in the corporate version 9, operators can compute the minimum fuel load required to meet reserve requirements or select this feature to compute necessary fuel loads backwards from the destination.

FliteStar/FliteMap users who are subscribers to one of its update services receive program updates automatically along with their NavData updates. Users of earlier versions of the programs who do not subscribe to an update service can easily upgrade to version 9.
